Wireless chargers

Hi Are all wireless chargers compatible with each other? My EE brain says no. Before we start down the road of designing an inductive power sender, can you advise the type/brand/technology of the wireless power receiver that will be used on the Seismograph. eg: There are systems that use resonant co...

Clarification on fuse calculation

I understand the mechanics of the fuse calculation, but I'd like to understand the reasoning behind the apparent round up/ round down conflict in the Sample calculation. The issue is sizing the fuse to deal with the "amperage of the overcurrent protection". Is the desired goal to have the fuse SMALL...

Re: Size Restrictions

Hi Matt. Just to clarify my reasons for asking the questions... I think it's great that MATE has added these size and weight bonuses. Like you say, it rewards us for being efficient in our designs. We just want to ensure we know how the rules will be applied on the day :) Your answers have cleared u...

Leaving tools in recovery basket.

I have lots of questions today :)

I understand it's not permitted to leave ROV components or debris on the pool floor, but is it permitted to leave tools etc in the recovery basket, since.... it's meant to be recovered?

Retractable tools

Hi

As a follow on to sizing questions:

Is the (bonus point) size limit applied at all times, or is it allowable to have a retractable tool that extends outside of the 20 pt bonus size once the ROV has been deployed, and it gets retracted prior to recovery?

Thanks
Phil.

Re: Size Restrictions

Hi I know this seems like beating a dead horse, but it's still not 100% clear to me how the test will be applied, in lie of the actual wording. We clearly don't want to go down a road with the "hope" we understand the rule. So, to be specific, rather than building a box shaped ROV, what if we decide...

Re: Identifying sensor strings

Hi OK, that answers one of my questions regarding sequence of operation. The other questions is one of identification. The pilot may drop the new string into the square and then goes off to do another mission. When they return to recover the old string, will there be a way for them, and (more import...

Orientation of the ceramic plate

This question is for explorer class.

Is the orientation of the ceramic plate going to be known?

That is.. will it always be flat and in it's typical-use orientation, or might it be inverted, or even vertical?

Just trying to scope out the variability of this task.

Thanks
Phil.

Identifying sensor strings

Hi. This question is for the Explorer class. The mission specs say we can attach the new sensor string to our ROV during the setup interval. We are trying to decide on the best sequence for placing the new string and returning the old one. Several question came up during our discussions... Are we pe...

Returning Sensor String.

At our regional, there was some confusion as to what was required to be done with the returned sensor string. Our kids tried to fully recover the string, but the judges said they just had to break the surface. In the manual, some item recoveries are very specific: eg: Companies will receive an addit...
