[EXPLORER] Thruster Guard Requirements

Post by EER_Mark » Sat May 11, 2019 6:01 pm

MECH-006 states that thruster guards must have a mesh size that meets IP-20 standards, but also you should not be able to touch a propeller with a finger. Our guard design meets IP-20 standards, but if you wiggle a small finger in a certain way it can touch a propeller (this does take some effort). Of course, bigger fingers like thumbs will not reach.

At the competition, will we be solely judged on IP-20 standards in order to pass safety inspection?

At the international competition, safety inspectors will have a 12.5 mm dowel (actually 12.7 mm). This will be used to see if motors are properly shrouded. Inspectors will not push too hard or break any motor shrouds.

Good luck.
