Ranger: microROV fuse

Post by mseamount » Tue Apr 16, 2019 11:34 am

We are confused by this line in the Mate manual:

ELEC-NRD-003: If powered from the surface through the ROV, the micro-ROV must have a 7.5 amp (or
smaller) fuse at the point of connection to the ROV.

Our microROV is driven by a 12V PWM signal generated in our ROV. So our microROV is NOT directly powered from the surface and therefore we think it doesn't need its own fuse. Is that correct?

Since your ROV is already fused, you are not required to put an additional fuse in for your micro-ROV.

However, you may want to consider what might happen to your vehicle's electronics if your micro-ROV motor is entangled / obstructed and you get an amperage spike. A fuse costs very little and protects the system (a hard lesson we at the MATE Center learned early on). But an additional fuse is not required.

Good luck.
