[EXPLORER] Mission Tools Size Measurement

Post by Seif » Thu Mar 07, 2019 2:53 pm

Hi!

We had a question regarding mission tools sizing; we do know that a mission tool cannot exceed the size limit of 640 mm for the 20 point size bonus (other than the cannon lift mechanism), but what if we want to use a tool that exceeds the size limit only when it's assembled, in other words, we will have this tool in disassembled parts and include it on the ROV's frame at the size measurement, and then reassemble it on the station in the 5-minutes station setup, would that be acceptable?

Yes, as per the competition manual Size and Weight section:

Companies may detach manipulator arms and other equipment and place that equipment, next to, on top of, or inside the vehicle frame, but all of the equipment that will be used must be present and fit within the measurement circle.

So you could have an arm longer then 64 cm if it is not fully assembled, but all parts and pieces would be required to go through both size and weight.

I am not quite sure what you have planned, but just as a further note:
The micro-ROV must be an ROV (vehicle) that moves away from your ROV and into the pipe. You cannot extend a long arm with a camera on it into the 6-inch pipe.

Good luck.
