[Explorer] Fuse in AC System

Post by theokell » Mon Mar 04, 2019 4:32 pm

Hello,

The competition manual specifies fuses that we must use in our 48v DC system, and we'll use one of those within 30cm of our DC power supply. In our control box, we want to essentially build our own power strip on a PCB to split the provided power input into 3 AC plugs, for the control box systems and monitor. Are we allowed to use fuses other than the ones specified, or a circuit breaker in our AC power system?

Thank you,

Hi Theo:

I have sent this out to our head safety inspectors for their thoughts. I will let you know their decision.

For EXPLORER class, the 48 volts cannot be split before reaching the ROV (ELEC-003E). So you cannot split off DC power to a board on the surface.

Note that each station will have AC power provided to it (CCC-001). You could use this AC to power video screens, computers, etc.

As for fuses, you can fuse sub-systems with other (non-Littlefuse) fuses.

Good luck.
